We are entangled in a world, which is suffering from an energy crisis of historic proportions. With the electricity costs soaring sky high we find ourselves amidst an emergency to resort to alternative energy sources. Solar energy being a very cost effective solution can go a long way to cut down the electricity costs. If you want to cut down your electricity bills effectively, then there is no better way, than to install your very own solar power DIY kit.

These kits are not costly and you only have to invest your money at the time of installation. These kits are very easy to install and to maintain. If you can spare some time you can install one Solar power DIY by yourself. As the name refers ‘do it yourself’ (DIY), you can just do it by your self. By referring to a preferred guide and purchasing some easily available hardware, you can easily assemble one solar kit for powering your appliances. Thereby you can just forget your electricity bills.

Today’s market consists of various solar power DIY installation guides. You can also find many sites in the internet showing the guidelines of the DIY kit. You must buy one which is effective and will help you to install the solar panel without any consideration. These guides will show the various components required and their installation procedures. You can easily set it up there is no need for you to be a technical expert. By following the procedure listed in the guide step by step you can install the solar panel. So you must choose a guide which will have all the details of the components required to make a cost effective solar panel.

The installation of a solar power DIY needs solar panels, charge controller, battery, generator, array DC disconnect, converter and a meter if you require to measure the amount of electricity you use. The solar panels can be bought to generate a specific amount of electricity say 50W, 100W, 150W etc according to your budget and necessity.

These solar panels can be made to produce certain voltage by fixing it in series or can produce the desired electricity by coupling it in parallel. To make the power generated flow into the battery we can use the charge controller. This charge controller also monitors the discharge of battery during night. For back up power we can use the generators.

The array DC disconnects helps us to disconnect the current generation at the time of maintenance or cleaning. This is done by disconnecting the DC power. This can be purchased at a reasonable price. As the panel produces direct current which should be converted into AC for house hold usages we need a converter. Thus this converter converts the Dc to AC. To monitor your daily usage you can just install a meter.

These components are readily available at the market and as it is only a one time investment, these are economical. These panels can last for about 30 years. You can easily install the kit by following the instruction in the manual. The light falling on the panel should be taken care of, so try not to keep it in shade.

The solar panel can run your computer air conditioner, washing machine, geyser and light and others Cost wise it is only $150. It is clean and does not produce any kind of gases nor do they produce a huge bill .You do not have to be in the dark during power cut.

In addition, they are a clean way of producing electricity without burning the precious fuels of the world. They do not generate any green house gases and help you to produce and use electricity in a convenient way, while also bringing down the escalating energy bills!

Depletion of fossil fuels have necessitated us to look for an alternative source of reliable renewable energy Solar Power Diy Partial solar electrification of your homes is achieved by renewable solar energy.

Exciting part of our learning is the discovery of the things that are not new to us but it has a new purpose when given an extra effort to study them like the sun which produces solar energy that can help us get through the day by supplying power to equipment that can use sun’s heat and translate it to become this energy. Indeed it’s a big help for us in terms of cost cutting and makes our life much easier by acquiring anything powered by solar energy so that whenever you need it, then it’s accessible for all season.

There are lamps, umbrellas and even hot water systems which are powered by solar energy. We can expect more of new innovative efforts of developers of those products that can give a satisfactory service for both people that have above average income and those who don’t have that much. The reason why it was developed is to widen the buyers’ options. Instead of paying electric bill every end of the month, why not pay a certain amount of bill right now when you have the necessary budget and will not wonder where to get the payment of the bills each month. With this kind of attitude, we can account our own budget and can allocate some of the savings that you made during the procurement of your solar powered devices.

Now it’s their time to experience what difference has been made in your life by acquiring these items which are powered by a solar energy. Proper installation should be made whether it’s dangerous or not. Because the main reason why a person should buy new products is to try the product’s service and at the same time not compromise the safety that they are experiencing before.

Or there is also one option that is more convenient, that is to buy it online. Only by clicking your mouse you can survey many stores, can compare their pricing, and avail of those who have discounts to offer, that’s one of the options on how to make your purchase easier. And one thing that you can also do is to acquire second hand equipment in a lower amount but make sure that it’s in a good condition so that you can enjoy what you really want.

What are you waiting for; find anyone or anyone that can help you determine the kind of choice in choosing your own thing that powered by the sun’s energy. You can always check the internet and other reading materials that can give you tips on how to have, when to have. Also, what is the ideal price that you should invest in order for a person to acquire one for his own.

Want to find out more about solar energy, then visit Scott Harberson’s site on how to choose the best solar energy for your needs.

We live in a time when the environment and the economy are frequently within the news. Therefore how are they connected and how do they affect our lives?

We live in a time when the environment and also the economy are continually in the news. Thus how are they connected and how do they affect our lives?

Whether you believe the global warming theories or not we all wish quality of life for a cheap cost. None of us wish to live with controlled power cuts or expensive priced fuel. These may appear like far-off threats, but if the gas supplies run out it\’s a possible short term solution.

Harnessing the weather to provide us sustainable cheaper fuels has got to be the sensible long term answer, because the wind and the sun are not about to run out on us. It\’s additionally the globally backed answer, so leap on the band wagon and get moving whilst the grants are still offered.

Below are 3 reasons why it is currently cheaper than ever to install sustainable energy supplies without the solar panel price breaking the budget.

1.	Cheaper silicon. Solar panels are created with polysilicon and the increase in silicon supplies means that these have just got cheaper. As with most manufactured goods, the retail price is ruled by the value of the constituent parts.

2.	Governments backing green. Green is a vote winner, so you\’ll be sure that each government can make an attempt to keep this section of the voters pleased. Entrepreneurs can be trying to exploit the budget made obtainable by the government to setup solar energy advice centres. These recommendation centres are the perfect place to check the solar panel price and installation costs.

3.	Increased demand. With this drive to move to solar the increased demand can mean that offers will be available and prices can be more competitive. It\’s an investors market at the moment.

You do not need to be environmentally preoccupied to perceive that with a little outlay you may significantly cut down your financial outgoings.

There are plenty of different areas to analyze before getting carried away at the solar panel price and ordering an immediate installation. First of all, look at the grants out there in your area. In some instances these are so large that they nearly totally cover the installation costs. Be positive to check the information carefully as there could be requirements which you need to satisfy so as to be entitled for the grant.

Global warming is an issue. Think about the summer we have just had – it seemed like winter. Global warming has become the core belief in a new eco-theology. The term is used as shorthand for anthropogenic (or man made) global warming. Global warming and climate change sceptics have challenged the way the graph was assembled. In this activity, students interpret the graph, estimate when the Earth could be 1oC hotter, and defend challenges to their own conclusions.

Climate change poses, above all, the problem of the unpredictability of climate patterns: 40C one month, -20C the following one, a hurricane today and a drought for the following five years. No patterns anymore, and there is no way to grow anything with those conditions, if we talk about agriculture. Climate model projections summarized by the IPCC indicate that average global surface temperature will continue to rise during the 21st century by 1.1C to 6.4C.

It seems like new information is discovered about something every day. And the topic of global warming is no exception. Keep reading to get more fresh news about the natural causes of global warming.

Such global warming will cause sea level to rise, and is expected to increase the intensity of extreme weather events and to change the amount/pattern of precipitation. Climate change is the greatest environmental challenge facing the world today. Rising global temperatures will bring changes in weather patterns, rising sea levels and increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather.

Climate change is a natural and much needed process. But it is our living habits that are disturbing the natural balance. Climate change is rightly at the top of the agenda and until we are all agreed on robust ubiquitous action it should remain there — not because other challenges are unimportant but because this one is seminal. Dealing rationally with human social organisation and related resource usage is impossible without considering pretty much every transnational policy question of any significance — poverty, education, biodiversity, the configuration of cities, housing, transport, health and water.

Global warming isn’t just about adding a few degrees to the world’s overall temperature. It’s about melting ice caps that will slowly erode some of the world’s most fertile farmlands, making growing the food the world consumes harder and harder. Global warming is an increase in the average temperature of Earth’s surface. Global warming is the new phlogiston.

That’s how things stand right now. Keep in mind that any subject can change over time, so be sure you keep up with the latest news about the natural causes of global warming.

Many people are moving away from traditional oil power and adding alternative fuel options to reduce the cost and impact on the environment. Choosing to utilize an alternative energy source like a wind power system is a great starting point for choosing to save money and the planet.

Wind power systems operate either on the grid and within the confines of the public power grid or run off the grid and are completely independent of outside power. Solar power systems run in much the same manner with excess power running back into the public power grid. The benefit of being on the grid is that there is a power back up if your system has problems or there is decreased wind or sun. At the end of the month the power company also pays back credit to alternative power producers.

Running off the grid means that your company or home will be completely solo on providing its power through alternatives. Off the grid systems generally cost more initially, but pay themselves off quickly. An off grid system will have a few different variables in its power system. Off the grid systems are ideal for developing areas with a limited public grid system and developing nations with no infrastructure. In these situations, combining another energy source like a diesel generator or solar panels would be smart to prevent outages.

Off grid wind power systems will include a wind turbine that connects to a control box responsible for sending the electrical charge to a pack of deep cycle long cell batteries. The inverter works to convert the charge from the batteries to household AV electricity.

For most modern households, an on grid system is the way to go. Wind turbines will take a place in landscape design and aesthetics will be an added benefit of alternative energy production through wind turbines. The added benefit of tax breaks and rebate incentives will guide this trend.

Contact your local government offices to see what kind of informational programs they are promoting about wind power systems. Your local power company will be able to provide information on alternative energy systems as well. Hunt down the references that your local government is using and start asking your own questions.

Make the decision to use wind power personal by driving around your state and talking to people who have made the addition of a wind power system. Look for wind power system contractors and ask about free consultations. In the current economy finding a deal on a wind power system might be a more realistic opportunity.

by Phineas Duru

Lot’s of people these days are using solar lights rather than regular lights to illuminate their homes. Not just on the interior of their homes but on the outside as well. These small pieces of equipment are starting to pop up everywhere and they are no longer bulky or ugly looking. This is good considering the flock of buyers these days.

How does it work? A solar light is a small light fixture with a battery, a solar collector, and a small, low energy light source, like an LED or small compact fluorescent. Installation? They’re usually stake lights – something that can be driven into the ground without running wires through your garden, more technological designed ones use use a discretely placed solar collector to run to a series of lights. In a lot of cases, the entire unit is about the size of an 8 ounce cup.

Have you taken a closer look at them? ( call it a sneak preview of your neighbors yard) A typical solar light setup will have the bulb enclosed in a white or clear plastic case. There may be a case with the solar panels on the individual lights, or they may run on a string to a solar panel that’s put somewhere unobtrusive. The good news is either of these methods can get the solar lights to work anywhere around your house. None the less, you must want the solar panel facing the sun, so generally towards the south in the US. Most will run for about 4 to 5 hours off of a charge in the daytime, some can last longer. It depends on how much power they’ve accumulated during the day.

A great number of people are buying these lights this summer for numerous reasons. Solar lights do not ever use power from the grid making it a cost free way to light your gardens, pathways and lawns. They also are rather convenient and can be placed almost anywhere provided there’s sunlight shinning through. Aside from this, the fact that they don’t drain power from the grid means there’s more power to go around for things like air conditioning. Not deprived use of our electrical gadgets due to cost of electricity is very important during the summer months especially for those of us who have health issues.

Have you taking a look at your neighbors homes at night lately? People’s homes are looking more tasteful with the new solar lights nowadays. Another drive in the minds of buyers is the stated fact that they aren’t as big or bulky as they use to be. They also look a lot better cosmetically and can blend in with almost any scenery. They come in a many defferent colors and compliment gardens, and the flower arrangements very well. They also work well with porches and decks.

If you like creativity, then you are in for a treat with solar lights. Due to their variety, flexibility and utility, they’ve inspired a lot of creative light displays and setups. They can be used to highlight a garden for night parties, marking walk ways. They have also done well as security devices when hooked up to a motion sensor.

Considering the fact that home improvement budgets have been slashed with the current economic downturn, these lights have proven to be the exception to the rule – they are beautiful, elegant, affordable and, flexible. Moreover, they allow home owners to express their creativity on a tight budget. They also don’t have recurring costs in the form of ongoing electric bills. Many home owner have considered them to be the harbinger of things to come for self powered home improvement.

Indeed, Solar lights are a great cost effective way to add charm to the look of your home and garden. They’re small, affordable, and can be bought in stages to improve the house, and they’re low maintenance and unobtrusive. They also look elegant when used with complementary backgrounds.

Wind is fast becoming a popular alternative to producing electricity. There are wind farms coming up everywhere in the world these days. This powerful resource needs to be used as much as possible by individuals and companies. Wind turbine electricity is efficient and cost effective.

The wind turbine electricity is generated obviously by the wind. Wind is a type of solar power. This is how it works, as the sun heats surfaces at differing rates, hot air rises up and cooler air will rush in to fill the gap. Thus the rushing that is produced is the wind. If a wind turbine is positioned in the right area it will catch the wind.

One of the most important parts of the wind turbine is the blade. In today’s horizontal turbines, there are typically three blades. The blades can be made of a plastic and fiberglass composite or wood. The blades are concave, and off center to allow for catching the wind and spinning proficiently.

The blades connect to a double rotor assembly. The blade rotor connects to the blades and spins as they catch wind. The blade rotor connects to a magnet rotor through a pulley assembly which is on larger turbines or at times directly on the smaller turbines often used for homes.

The magnet rotor is not used to turn anything it spins about a magnetic alternator which in turn creates a magnetic field. When the magnetic field goes over the wires of the alternator, an electrical charge is produced. The electrical charge that is produced is carried into a regulator that converts the natural electricity into DC power for home use.

This is just a crash course in wind turbine technology. It is more involved than some might think. It is more complicated than the average windmill and has greater possiblities for mainstream use. People have used the power of wind for energy use for many years, but it has evolved with new technology.

These days it may sound more sophisticated, but the premise is basically the same. There is a bit more math involved and more sophisticated components used to make it capture the wind to make electricity. The turbines do not resemble the old windmills of the past, but they do work more efficiently

Wind power is the quickly becoming the largest renewable energy platform in the world. You might see these wind turbine generators popping up especially in rural areas. This is a great resource that needs to be tapped into by more companies and individuals at least for partial power use. Wind turbine electricity is very economical, and earth friendly.

The wind turbine electricity is created only by wind resources. Wind is really a type of solar power. Just like solar panels use the sun, turbines use the wind, both natural sources of power. Here is an explanation of how it all works; the sun heats surfaces at uneven rates, the hot air that is formed then rises up and this forces cooler air to rush in and fill the gap. The rushing of the wind is what helps to produce the electricity. A wind turbine has to be positioned in the right area in order to catch the wind.

One of the most important parts of the wind turbine is the blade. In today’s horizontal turbines, there are typically three blades. The blades can be made of a plastic and fiberglass composite or wood. The blades are concave, and off center to allow for catching the wind and spinning proficiently.

The blades are connected to a double rotor assembly, which then connects to a magnet rotor through a pulley assembly, which is used on larger turbines or can be placed directly on the smaller turbines used for homes. This assembly makes the blades turn.

The magnet rotor does not turn anything. It spins around a magnetic alternator which generates a magnetic field. When the magnetic field passes over the wires of the alternator, an electrical charge is generated. The electrical charge that is created is moved into a regulator that changes the natural electricity into a usable DC power form.

Now you have had a crash course in how a wind turbine works, you can imagine the potential. As you see it is a bit more complicated than one might first realize. It is however quite simple at its core. Harnessing the wind for energy use has been around for a long time. In days past it was used to turn wheels for different types of uses such as running a saw at a saw mill.

These days it may sound more sophisticated, but the premise is basically the same. There is a bit more math involved and more sophisticated components used to make it capture the wind to make electricity. The turbines do not resemble the old windmills of the past, but they do work more efficiently

At Green Products, we have come across a product from Cool Earth: Solar Balloons. Cool Earth was created with the mandate of producing electricity using solar power, specifically solar cells. Solar power is not a new concept, but how the sunlight is collected and concentrated is truly unique.

The current installed solar plants use flat-panels. Each panel is heavy, large, easily damaged, and costly to repair. This means the cost to produce a watt of electricity is 5-7 times greater than using natural gas and is not a feasible alternative to fossil fuels. This is no longer true with the Cool Earth solar balloon system.

One side of the balloon is made from reflective silver Mylar plastic. The other half is transparent to allow in sunlight. The silver material is parabolic-shaped to concentrate the sunlight on to a single point to achieve maximum light concentration. This is why high performance solar cells are used.

This unique design can concentrate the sunlight so well, it produces 300 to 400 times more power per square inch of solar cells than traditional flat-panel solar systems. By regulating the air pressure inside the balloon, they can focus the concentrated sunlight directly on the photocell. The air regulating system is designed to maintain the proper balloon size as the outside air temperature increases or decreases.

The basic structure of each orb is simple. It has a lightweight circular metal frame with an arm that holds the solar cells near the top of the clear side of the orb. Even though the balloon is eight feet in diameter, the frame is the only rigid component of the basic design. It connects to a point where external hardware is attached for mounting.

This system is ideal for any of the western states where sunlight is most abundant and is not obscured by long term cloud formations during an average year. During the summer months this type of system could be used as a “peaker” (that is, a peak-use power source) to prevent rolling power outages.

At Green Products, one of the most interesting aspects we see is the way the system is brought together to create a solar power plant and the near elimination of physical limitations on plant installations. Check it out.

Some of these have been well received like wind, solar and hydro power. Others are more controversial and include using geothermal power and biofuels.

Wind power is a highly versatile form of alternative green energy. Wind is able to propel the vanes of a windmill which can then drive an electric turbine. Wind power does have advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are that wind is free and abundant. The disadvantages include the noise of the rotating vanes if windmills are placed close to residential areas. Conservationists have also argued that too many windmills together are an eyesore that mars the beauty of the countryside.

Solar energy is a popular alternative green energy system. The energy of the sun could potentially be harnessed to power every home on the planet. Solar power is used to heat water that is fed into pipes for heating and hot water supply. Solar heated water can be transformed into hydrogen gas which is used for driving turbines. Solar energy can also be converted into direct electricity with photovoltaic solar panels. It is often argued that the production of solar cells is expensive and creates its’ own environmental problems.

One alternative green energy solution that has enjoyed widespread implementation is hydroelectric power. Many countries such as the US and Egypt have substantial hydro power plants that are capable of supplying electricity to thousands of homes and businesses. Indeed for some countries, hydroelectric power is the principal if not sole method for supplying electricity to the national grid. As this alternative green energy relies on water to drive the turbines, the resources needed are quite easily and cheaply available. The problems associated with this energy solution are with the dam infrastructure needed to run them. In order to create dams, lands have been flooded and rivers are caused to stop flowing. This has led to some criticism of hydroelectric power.

Deep below the earth’s surface molten rock known as plasma. This plasma heats all rock close to it to tremendously high temperatures. The alternative green energy solution that taps into this heat source is geothermal power. By drilling bore holes up to 3 miles deep, it is possible to send water down to make contact with these sizzling temperatures. Water is forced back up through a second bore hole. As soon as it makes contact with the air it is vaporized into steam jets that drive generating turbines.

Power plants can be operated using the steam generated by geothermal power, Geothermal power is an alternative green energy solution that is yet to see widespread implementation. This is because of the extremely high costs associated with drilling water holes. Further, it remains unclear what implications exist for causing earthquakes by geothermal power drilling.

Biofuels are a controversial type of alternative green energy. Plants that are rich in oils or sugars are specially grown to be processed into fuel for powering engines. Biofuels are regarded as renewable energy because there is no limit to the amount of times a specific plant can be grown, unlike fossil fuels which are finite. The main argument against biofuels is the land that is needed to grow them which could alternatively be used for growing food for human consumption. Also, burning biofuels still produces carbon emissions although the amount is thought to be cancelled out by effect of growing the fuel crops in the first place.

If you are living in the real world today chances are you have heard quite a bit about living a self-sufficient life, going off the grid, and eco living. For most people these are lofty ideas that sound appealing but very far out of reach. If you have been pondering the dream of living off your own resources and not depending on the government for any of your necessities, then you could learn some lessons from others who are living every day of their life toward that very dream.

If you think you would like to join those people, don’t dismiss it as something that is too expensive for the everyday person like yourself. First take a serious look at what it takes to become self-sufficient today.

First, what exactly does it mean to live ‘off the grid’? The grid simply refers to the huge system that brings electricity and gas into your home everyday. This grid is a huge dependence for most people and being completely self sufficient requires getting off that grid. There is such thing as being partly on and off the grid.

There are people who have been working toward that dream their entire life but still are not completely off the grid. That is because it isn’t cheap to purchase the equipment to completely keep a home powered. Once this is achieved it is a huge accomplishment to be extremely proud of.

Obviously, most people cannot afford to immediately purchase everything that is needed to be completely self-sufficient. Yet, it is very realistic to make it a goal and work toward that dream a little at a time.

Little steps build up until you are in a full run panting toward the finish line of an eco conscious life. The first baby step for many people is to start growing as much of their food as they have land to grow. Purchasing seed for vegetables is extremely cheap but will pay off big as you can and freeze tons of food for later months.

That gas guzzler sitting in the driveway is another small step you could make. Chances are you have already thought about getting a hybrid to take advantage of the government cash back offers and to reduce your carbon footprint that much more. If you can afford to take this step, there is no time like right now.

Of course, the sun is our most powerful source of energy and it is a dream of many people to depend on it more than they do the public electricity. If you are one of these people, then check into the price of getting solar power in your home and start saving now.

If you can’t afford to jump right in and bring your entire lifestyle into line with eco living principles that is no reason to sit back and do nothing at all. No one can afford to go all the way right away, so just commit today to your first small step. Even if you just change your light bulbs to a more energy conservative variety, it’s a big start to your future.

There has recently been more pressure and emphasis placed to take better care of our environment. By choosing to utilize recycled checks you can do your part for the environment while at the same time fulfilling one of the many mandatory needs of life.

There are three companies in particular that produce their printed and themed checks on recycled paper. These checks are printed on recycled paper with 20% post-consumer fibre which is the highest that can be created through modern technology today. Not only this, but these environmentally friendly companies also use vegetable based ink which are both biodegradable and toxic free, two features which can be appreciated by all consumers today.

The Check Gallery is one of the most popular options when ordering recycled checks. They are America’s leading environmentally-friendly check printer. Within The Check Gallery’s extensive options of check designs you will find everything from plain, to nature scenes to wildlife checks.

Classic Checks is another recycled check company. Within this company you can find a great deal of environmental themed checks. Although they offer a smaller selection to choose from, many of the designs benefit important causes such as the National Breast Cancer Foundation, National Wildlife Federation and Humane Society. You can perform two good actions with one order: using recycled checks and benefiting a worthy foundation.

Message!Products finishes out our list of earth conscious check printing companies. By ordering recycled checks from Message!Products you can also have the opportunity to support the causes that are important to you. With a variety of check designs to choose from, there are dozens of social, animal or environmental organizations you can benefit, including World Wildlife Fund, Sierra Club, Autism Now, MADD, PETA and many more.

So, you want to do your part by ordering recycled personal checks but you’re thinking that the cost must be significant because of the extra special processing involved. Think again! You may be surprised to learn that when compared with ordering checks from your bank, these three companies feature prices that can save you up to 50% off.

First-time customers in particular can save a lot of money. There are numerous coupons to be found out there for each of these recycled check companies. Some many offer a multi-box discount, while others are good for free shipping.

With the fate our earth in clear focus, every little thing we do can make a difference, even when it comes to ordering checks. If everyone makes the smart decision to fill their checkbooks with recycled checks, the impact would be felt. So ditch those boring personal checks and get some recycled checks today.

In this edition of Green Products, let’s turn to financing. Many people are going through some hard times and some not so hard. You still want to go green in every way you can, but affording it right now may not be as easy as before. After taking a hard look at this challenge, here are some thoughts:

First, how is the seller/manufacturer of green products affected during a downturn? Businesses that produce alternative energy/green products are facing the same (if not more) pressure than the average consumer. This means that most alternative energy businesses will be more willing than ever to negotiate price, and may have discounts or incentives in place.

The next incentive to look at is the one that began on February 17, 2009 when President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Re-investment Act of 2009. This new law set aside money in the form of tax credits to offset the cost of installing alternative energy systems and green products.

What this means to you is a 30% tax credit when installing a wind powered turbine, solar array, solar water heating, fuel cell, and/or geothermal heat pumps. In addition, if you have a small business, this new law allows you get cash in the form of grants instead of a tax credit as an extra incentive.

So how does all this help you? Simple: businesses that sell alternative energy or green products are more willing to negotiate price, the government is allowing for large tax credits, and energy costs are skyrocketing again. Together this means you can put something in place now to reduce your electrical bill that will last for years.

Finally – does your state provide additional incentives? Many states have an energy buy-back policy in place. The utility pays you for any electricity that is produced in excess of what you used. That is cash in your pocket.

With this in mind everybody wins; you win by saving money and reducing our dependence on foreign oil; the businesses win by producing and selling green products and the economy wins by helping to keep people employed.

Michael

by Denzil De Vries

With the burden on the earth’s natural resources becoming more onerous, alternative electric energy is becoming less of an option and more of a necessity. The toll on the environment also requires us to explore realistic solutions to preserve dwindling resources.

Demand for fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal have led to the depletion of the earth’s natural resources. The world’s forestry reserves are in trouble too as they are being cut down to supplement energy requirements. Solutions are desperately being sought in order to avert global disaster.

Most alternative electric energy systems are based on very simple technology that is easy to understand. Each of them is based on the concept of harnessing the infinite energy of nature to produce electricity. If more alternative electricity systems could be made use of this could help preserve our finite resources.

There is nothing new about using renewable sources for energy. Many alternative electric energy systems are simply an updated version of old fashioned technology. Sources of energy can be generated using the power of the wind, sun or water.

Windmills used by our predecessors to grind corn or wheat have evolved into the modern wind turbines we see today. Both types of windmill operate on similar principles. Each has large blades that rotate when the wind is trapped in them. The old windmill shafts were connected to a great millstone that would slowly roll as the wind turned the vanes. Newer windmills now turn electric generating turbines instead.

Hydro electric power is an alternative electric energy system that is not new in concept. Hydro power stations are the preferred choice in some areas for providing electricity to a large population. Their main benefits are that they are not expensive to run and they do not pollute the environment. This type of alternative electric energy system is often worked by the force of water in a dam which passes over turbine blades to generate electricity. Prototypes of the modern hydro turbine were huge wheels that turned millstones in the past.

The most popular alternative electricity system for homes, schools and businesses is solar power. The technology used is the most groundbreaking because it harnesses the sun’s energy with tiny components called photo voltaic cells. These cells convert the energy into electricity which is able to charge batteries for consumers to make use of as needed. Solar energy is a slightly more complex technology than other alternative electricity systems but it also the most adaptable.

Almost everyone understands the importance of recycling our byproducts, but in this age of consumption it is more important then ever that cities and municipalities encourage this and provide more easily accessible resources for recycling in order to keep local communities from drowning in a sea of trash.

by A Nutt

Almost everyone understands the importance of recycling our byproducts, but in this age of consumption it is more important then ever that cities and municipalities encourage this and provide more easily accessible resources for recycling in order to keep local communities from drowning in a sea of trash.

Most households use and discard an incredible amount of products that could be easily recycled every week. Nearly every byproduct we use has the potential to be recycled to some extent or another. The list is long and includes plastic beverage containers, newspaper, cardboard containers, aluminum soda cans, egg cartons, old phone books, etc., etc. While each household is responsible for recycling its own consumer products, the city should also be responsible for providing a safe and easy way for those individual households to drop off their recyclable items.

Many towns and cities have local drop off locations where the residents can dispose of their recyclable trash for free. Not every city makes these resources available, however, and few advertise their existence and location to the public. Sometimes the information is made accessible in the community pages of the local phone book. Some cities even rely on the local trash disposal company to provide special recycle bins to their customers, but they tend to charge an extra fee for each extra bin.

The city government must take the initiative to promote county recycling within their community and to make the receptacles more readily accessible. Recycling is a necessary and beneficial resource for any community. By making recycling drop off points easily accessible and well known to their own residents, the city stands to enhance the productivity and standing of their community while even making a little extra money for the city coffers. Many recyclable items, such as aluminum cans and glass bottles, generate a small return from the recycling company and when submitted in bulk the result can be a tidy sum that could be used to benefit the community in many ways. Planting trees, providing funds for the local little league team or purchasing textbooks for schoolchildren could all be free money well spent.

The initial cost of setting up a city recycling location can be minimal in comparison to the return on such an investment, and it doesnt have to be fancy, just functional. Once the drop off location is established, the city must make its presence well known to the residents in order to make full use of its potential. The city employees and administration itself should lead the way by recycling all of their suitable trash and placing recycle bins in all city buildings. In addition, the city could start a campaign to reduce and reuse, which has become popular in many rural areas.

With so many disposable items being used and discarded every day all across the world, it is mandatory that cities get more involved in the trash habits of its townsfolk. To the city that commits to leading the way for more community wide recycling, the benefits can outweigh the landfill.

So are you looking to go green and start saving your hard earned bucks (or pounds or euors etc!) on all those expensive fuel bills?

If that is the case the best way to utilize solar power for homes in when you build your own solar panel. It’s a great fun project that has so many benefits.

It just would not be feasible to give full instructions all in this piece, but it will get you going on the right path.

Firstly, this project is suitable for pretty much everyone out there. You do not need specialist knowledge or any previous experience either. You just need some good guidance.

It comes from getting a really good quality instruction manual for building your solar panel and then installing it. There are currently a huge amount available in the marketplace. This will show you on a step by step basis how to do everything, including what stuff you will require to get it build.

As well as the full instructions, a really excellent guide will also include the opportunity for you to get some support and feedback from their ‘behind the scenes team’, so whenever you need a little help with the inevitable problems that will come up during the first few times that you try this process, there will be someone there for you

The actual equipment that will be needed is very easy to pick up. Much of the things can actually found around most homes and garages and everything else is available at a hardware shop. The maximum cost for everything will be around 200 bucks.

When I completed my first solar panel it took around about 7 days to fully install it and get it working. It’s now a lot less than that, but still fun.

Lets get going!
