These amazing pictures show the moment a huge wind turbine erupted in flames after it was struck by hurricane-force winds in Scotland.

Local photographer Stuart McMahon from Ardossan, North Ayrshire, snapped the fireball as it wrecked the turbine earlier this afternoon.

Stuart told ClickGreen tonight the blades on the 30mw turbine had been braked and were not turning as the ferocious winds swept across Scotland.

"It was clear that the turbine caught fire first and the flames spread to the covering of blades," he said. "There was debris still on fire being swept off in the wind and across the fields."

"These are huge structures and to see one on fire was a spectacular sight."

"The fire must have lasted for about 15 or 20 minutes until the fire brigade turned up to put out the fire."

The Ardrossan wind farm was sold by Scottish and Southern Energy to Infinis last year for £54 million. It comprises of 15 turbines with the capacity to power about 29,500 homes.

Well i must say, it’s been quite a while since did any blogging on this space – something that i think i should be getting back into given my passion on this subject:)

It seems in a lot of instances, wind power has been getting a bad rap lately due to the noise that they create.

A few months ago, we were driving along the freeway from Sydney to Melbourne. I looked out the window only to see a huge wind turbine – doing its thing.

We drive a little further and their they were – at least 20-30 wind turbines – all spinning in harmony with each other – incredible sight i must say!

The noise they are proclaimed to be emitting, didn’t seem to be any different to that as the wind rushes past the window as our car drives on. In fact, if you had shut yours eyes as you drive past these huge structures, was no different to anywhere else as we drove the 1000km stretch of road.

All opinions are valid of course, but i think it’s time to actually bring this subject to the surface for a healthy discussion – indeed:)

First – i wonder what the residents of this building (video below) are experiencing with regards to noise pollution?

Thousands of people are searching for alternative sources of utility power. Everybody understands that pv electric power and wind turbine electrical generation provide an eco friendly alternate to fossil fuel created electricity. Proponents of this concept claim that as soon as the initial tools is bought, the owner receives cost-free strength forever. The simple premise of magnetic electrical power technology is that when the generator is driven up, it will continue to develop electrical power indefinitely. If correct, this gear has the potential to revolutionize electrical production. Lets dig deeper into this topic and find out the shocking real truth about magnetic electrical power era.

Leonardo Da Vinci created some drawings of machines that he believed could be capable of creating no cost energy. Nikola Tesla has been known as the father of free electricity. A lot more lately, Bruce De Palma and John Christie have produced what they call the long term of free of charge power.

In 1977, Bruce De Palma made his N-Appliance, which he claimed employed rotating magnets to create vitality. Overunity or perpetual motion refers to any gadget or technique that perpetually generates additional electricity than it consumes.

However, neither of these magnetic electrical power generators have been independently verified as capable of creating overunity. Critics claim that such a generator can not create overunity or free of charge power. To do so would defy a simple law of physics, the conservation of strength. In contrast to photo voltaic and wind electrical power there are at this time no strength businesses employing magnet powered generators for electrical production.

Incapable to verify any real functioning installation, I made the decision to get a hold of the magnetic generator plans from the Magniworks web site. With these programs I was having to the truth of the matter about magnetic electric power generators. The ideas present comprehensive parts list, illustrations and guidelines. Nonetheless, immediately after constructing the generator you have some thing that is a science project, not an alternative power alternative. The generator is tiny (around 4 inches square) and according to the printed specifications creates only 24.5 watts of output. Consider about that. 24.5 watts is much less than half the electrical power required to light up a single 60 watt light bulb. So what is the shocking fact about magnetic strength generators?

With these ideas I was getting to the fact about magnetic energy generators. The strategies present comprehensive parts checklist, illustrations and recommendations. On the other hand, after constructing the generator you have one thing that is a science project, not an alternate electricity alternative. 24.five watts is significantly less than half the electrical power required to light up a single 60 watt light bulb. To swap 50 % or a lot more of your latest electric usage you would have to assemble 20-25 of these generators and then wire them with each other.

one. two. in conclusion, don’t waste your time or money chasing the free of charge electricity promised by the magnetic electric power advocates. Photo voltaic strength and wind turbine electric power, although costing far more that $100 to set up, do really develop actual usable electrical energy. Excellent programs for solar panel and/or wind turbines are offered for you to download.

There is absolutely no issue about it, increasing numbers of people worldwide are embracing alternative energy solutions to produce electrical power for their own homes. Constructing a DIY wind turbine and DIY solar panels are, as most people know, is something they can do for themselves and for relatively little money. These tasks can be carried out with easily accessible parts that you can get from the nearby home improvement store with tools that you most likely already have in your home.

Just about any able-bodied individual can get the required plans from the internet and use those plans to create wind turbines and solar panels.

Ready-made wind turbines built by manufacturers can be quite costly working within the thousands of dollars. So if you are packed and want to save some effort and time then go ahead and obtain a preconstructed windmill.

We will be finding more and more people taking advantage of available renewable resources such as the sun and wind to power their homes. Across the world in pretty much every civilized country everyone is turning to DIY wind turbines and solar panels. Not merely there is a substantial savings in generating your own personal electricity but there is also a palpable satisfaction derived from knowing that you are engaging in your part to reduce your own carbon footprint.

Wind turbines work simply by kinetic energy which only denotes the fact that blowing wind catches the blades of the rotor and makes it turn. That energy coming from that turning motion is taken and transformed into electricity. The electricity that is certainly taken can be stored and can provide power even if the wind will not be blowing and the blades of the turbine are still. Lots of people report how they conserve to 80% with their DIY wind turbine. A few also produce sufficient electricity from their wind power system to absolutely cover their electricity bill each month. And what’s the best scenario of all? Producing enough power out of your wind turbine in order to not only pay your own utility expenses but also to sell the extra electricity back to your utility company.

If you have enjoyed all the information you learn about wind turbines then definitely you’ll love everything else you can find at an alternative energy home. .

Wind energy, many people are ardently jumping on the bandwagon and constructing their own wind turbines for their home. But is it truly worth it? Can they seriously save a lot of money? The answer is yes, they can and the same is true for you.

Now I don’t wish to give the impression that this form of energy is the do all and end all to your electricity needs. While it is a fantastic way for the average home owner to cut their electric bill by up to 80%, you do have to keep a few points in mind.

First of all, you will likely need more than one turbine to generate enough electricity for your home. Of course that will depend on the size of the turbine you have, and your electricity needs. But generally speaking, a homeowner will need several small turbines to generate enough electricity so they can kiss their utility company goodbye.

An additional factor is where you live. Everywhere gets wind but some places, say Chicago, get more. If you live in a location where you don’t get a lot of wind, maybe you have a lot of trees, or you live in a valley, you won’t get as much out of your turbine.

However, since a wind turbine can be built for a few hundred dollars and since a lot of homeowners see a considerable savings from just one turbine, it may still be worth your while to invest in this environmentally friendly, completely renewable, free wind energy source.

It can be a excellent family project to build your very own wind turbine. The kids will learn to be grateful for the environment as they grow up.

For any person who is worried about the environment, as well as their own financial health, utilizing wind energy can be a very cost efficient way to help the earth and themselves.

You’ve probably heard a lot recently about saving money on your electric bills by using wind energy and building your own wind powered generators. Have you ever wondered if it really is that easy? Well, the good news is that, yes, it is.

Using the wind energy to run equipment has been about a long time. Think of the old windmills from hundreds of years ago? Luckily for us technology has improved to the point where we can not only produce electricity from wind we can also store it for later use.

You don’t actually have to understand how it all works in order to benefit from it. Most of us don’t have a clue how our computer works, however we nevertheless use it. The fundamentals are that the wind is captured by the wind turbine and than stored for use at a later time.

Wind turbines come in several different shape and sizes. Clearly the bigger the turbine the more electricity you will be able to generate.

There are many sources available today that can easily, and cheaply, show you how to build your own wind turbine, step by step. Many can even be built for less than a few hundred dollars.

If you have a lot of property, and time, you may perhaps build your own little wind farm and possibly generate enough electricity to power your own home without having to buy any electricity from your utility company.

For a lot of people however, one or two small turbines to produce a little extra power is all they’re actually looking for and this can be done without difficulty.

So if you are interested in saving a little money, helping the earth, and even have some bragging rights, you can use wind energy today by building your own wind powered generators. It is quick, inexpensive, and straightforward to make your own wind turbine for use in your home. Begin today and you can be saving by tomorrow.

We have a situation in regards to our energy consumption. We are using resources that pollute the planet. In addition, these resources are depleting more and more everyday. As a whole, we must do our part in repairing the environment and look towards the future with a better and greener plan in place. We must choose alternative energy over fossil fuels to keep our planet as healthy as possible.

Wind energy is one alternative energy that should be examined more as we look towards a greener Earth. The cost of installing a windmill can seem to be costly up front but you must remember in the long run youll be saving money due to the fact that windmills produce free nonpolluting wind energy into wind power. Some may think that they need a lot of wind in order to be able to efficiently use a windmill. You may be surprised that people who live in areas that have even a lower average wind speed of 11 miles per hour still get good results in producing wind energy.

The cost of professional installation of a windmill is undoubtedly one of the most influential reasons people dont decide to choose alternative energy in way by wind power. However, one can set up a windmill at home at a much less price. Homemade windmills and deciding to build your own windmill are great alternative energy decisions when you want to help the environment and the planet but not while busting your wallet. It is, however, important to consider certain things while setting up a windmill on your own. Here are a few tips on how to build a windmill.

One of the most important thing to do when planning out your windmill project is to take the time to plan out your project.

Make sure to invest in good study materials for your windmill. You want to make sure that youre windmill can handle heavy winds or anything else mother nature as to offer.

Check to look around for the best prices for quality material and choose appropriately, a good measure to base your choice is around your budget and size of project.

When looking for a windmill how-to guide, look for the following features:

Detailed pictures:

Colored pictures provide visual descriptions, something that is necessary for a project such as this. If you have illustrations to help you on your homemade windmill project, itll definitely help assist you rather than deter you.

Simple to understand instructions:

If your windmill-making guide uses a lot of jargon and technical information, it is better to look for a different one. Taking the time to find the one that is the easiest to understand is going to save you a lot of trouble in the long run.

Materials list and where to find them:

Your expansive windmill manual should be able to provide you with detailed visual descriptions of all the components you need for this project. Two guides you may want to look into include the two at the top of their market, Earth4Energy and Green DIY Energy. Check out Go-SolarEnergy.com to find a review of Earth4Energy Review to make an educated decision. Good Luck!

Perhaps one of the cheapest sources of energy is wind power.

Perhaps one of the cheapest sources of energy is wind power. You can Build A Wind Power Generator at home and start generating electricity for your own consumption. Not only is the electricity produced by a wind generator much cheaper; the whole process is pollution-free as well.

Wind power generators have been around for an extremely long time, and have many parts, two of which are the gearbox and large rotor blades. Other parts include the wind mills or turbine which captures wind energy by rotating a propeller that in turn, rotates a shaft and powers a generator; the power storage; the DC/AC converter; and the power stabilizer which delivers home-made power and stabilizes the power feed to be constant and regular.

As the name suggests, they harness wind power and convert the kinetic energy of wind into electrical energy, which is then supplied to our homes through the connecting wires. It is also inexhaustible like sunlight. Therefore, wind power can provide us with an extremely clean and renewable supply of electricity.

The kit is readily available in the market. However, some varieties are more costly than the others, and so you should be able to choose your kit well. Ensure that the kit that you buy will give you a good quality product at a minimum price. Remember not to exchange the cost for quality, but also do not spend too much on something that will not give you more than what you can get from something cheaper. For around two hundred dollars, you can start building your home-made wind power generator.

Wind energy is unlimited, meaning, the power generated out of a wind power generator will give a lifetime benefit for our energy needs. Using wind power will help us reduce our electric bills by up to seventy percent, while reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and saving the world we live in.

As you will soon find out there are plenty of advertisements both online, and in magazines and newspapers offering wind generators for sale. However, before you rush out and invest in this new alternative energy supply for your home there are a number of things that need to be taken into consideration beforehand. Below we take a look at just what some of these are.

Factor 1 – Quality

Before you go out spending money on wind generators for sale you should look at the standard of finish. A good quality one may cost more initially, but will save you money in the long run as you won’t have to get it repaired so often because the blades have either jammed or malfunctioned. Go for those models where the manufacturer offers a warranty of 5 years or more on their products as this shows that they have confidence in what they produce and are willing to ensure that their profits remain high because they don’t use substandard materials.

Factor 2 – Determine How Much Electricity You Will Need Each Year

The quickest and easiest way to calculate this figure is by contacting your utility company and asking them provide you with a summary of your annual kilowatt usage. After obtaining this figure you are then in a better position to work out exactly what size wind generator you will need in order to provide ample amounts of energy annually to power your home.

Once you know the amount of energy needed to power your home then you can decide on the kind of generator you need. When possible look for those systems which allow energy to be stored using a direct DC supply. You’ll also want to install an inverter to convert your stored DC energy into an AC supply for powering appliances in the home. You should avoid any generators which come with built-in inverters as these can become easily damaged and will cost quite a bit to replace.

Factor 3 – What Planning Permissions Do You Need?

In most cases if you intend to install a free standing wind generator then certain planning permissions will need to be obtained before you do. This means contacting your local planning authority as to what these are. However, you may discover that if you choose to install a small roof top model then such permission may not be needed.

Factor 4 – Have you Considered ALL Costs?

This is the biggest factor that you will need to take into consideration when shopping for wind generators for sale. Okay, the price for purchasing such a system may look good, but don?t forget that you need to take into consideration how much it is going to cost for installation. If you are installing a free standing one then you need to consider that you may need to make alterations to the area where it is to be installed, which may include having a concrete foundation laid to support your system. Plus, there may be additional costs involved relating to having the wiring in your home modified to meet the specifications of the system so that it doesn’t cause any damage to the appliances that are going to be using your new source of energy.

If you are not familiar with a windmill, it is a mechanism that takes wind energy and converts it into useable energy. Windmills take wind power and produces it into electrical energy to be used for our electronic devices. Windmills have been discussed as a great way to produce power instead of traditional ways due to clean method and unlimited resource. Windmill and wind energy are not new concepts. They have been producing energy since back in the day and were used for pumping water and towing boats. People have used their knowledge of how to make a windmill to create wind energy for decades.

In the current situation of extreme energy crisis across the globe, it only makes sense that we look for alternate power solutions. As a financial move, a windmill is a great investment. Especially in the farm areas and countrysides across the world. A windmill may not be the optimum solution in a highly-populated area.

Are there any pre-requisites for having a windmill?

The first pre-requisite is that you have at least an acre of space dedicated to the spot of where you are going to place your windmill.

You want at least an acre of land so the windmill blades can get enough wind power to be able to produce wind energy for usage.

Having an average speed of 11 miles per hour is going to secure that your windmill is going to have enough wind power to work with to generate wind energy. In order to reach 11 miles per hour wind speed, be sure you arent installing a windmill in areas surrounded by high-rise buildings or any tall towers. You can find information on your area related to its wind speed on the internet by a quick search on the search engines.

Here are the components of a windmill.

Blades: The blades are the components that are able to allow us to be able to use wind energy as wind power.

Tower: The tower is what holds the system high enough to be able to use the wind to convert it into wind power. Typically it is made out of poly-vinyl cholride.

Shaft: The shaft is an integral part which connects the blades to the tower as well as allowing for the blades to rotate smoothly.

Base: The base of the windmill is the foundation of the whole system which holds the tower and the blades.

Windmills are set up how? Nowadays you can find ready-to-install windmill kits online.

Most existing sources hype up the promise of wind turbines and going green, but hardly anyone tells you how much it actually costs.

by Brian Bradley

Most existing sources hype up the promise of wind turbines and going green, but hardly anyone tells you how much it actually costs.

Some say that you could do it for under $50, but this is tough unless you happen to have lots of spare metal and other hardware at your house already.

If you want to build your own wind turbine from scratch, here’s a quick overview of what you’ll need:

1) To actually make the electricity, you’ll need a generator. You can find a 30-40 vdc one on eBay for between $30-$50.

2) Sheet metal for the construction of the tail and body is available online or at the store for around five dollars.

3) Material for the construction of the rotor blades for your turbine, PVC Pipe, is available for around ten dollars, either online or at the hardware store.

4) You can purchase a Hub to use to attach the blades to the motor for around ten dollars at the hardware store or you can construct your own from a piece of circular metal alloy.

5) The easiest way to get a “tower” to support your wind turbine is to pick an old satellite TV tower – or you can buy the spare parts for $10.

6) To store your wind turbine’s energy, you need a deep cycle battery – $10 online, or free at your local golf course if they’re disposing of them.

7) Next, a charge controller for protecting your battery will run you about $25.
A dump load for the reception of any extra energy will not cost you anything if you have an old water heater or back-up battery pack around.

9) Assuming you’re using this wind turbine for your house, you’ll need an AC inverter – expect $50 to $75 depending on the wattage you require.

10) You need hardware to attach the blades to the hub and tools such as screwdrivers, sockets, a grinder, a jigsaw and sandpaper. If you dont have any hardware or tools already, allow about $10.00 for purchases at the hardware store.

Taken together, all these parts might cost you between $160 and $225 – or you could go even lower if you already have a few of these parts on-hand.
